Introduction With vast investment and employment opportunities, India's urban areas have already become the engine of the country's development, drawing in everyone from the global real estate firm to the displaced marginal farmer. The World Bank estimates that urban areas currently house 32 percent of India's population of 1.2 billion, the highest proportion in Indian history.
